The 80/20 Rule
My wife and I are in our bible study yesterday and we are currently studying Dr Emerson and his Love and Respect book. Yesterday we came across the the 80/20 rule.
So this is how the rule basically works, 80% of your partner you absolutely are in love with and is everything you need and then there is 20% that you have to learn how to accept and may not exactly like. She may not be as clean as you may like OR might not watch sports EVERY second of your life, but that is just 20% of your needs.
Your spouse is not going to be perfect and when you keep your focus on the 20% that is missing, you miss out on the 80% that is already there! When you start to accept the 20%, then you will enjoy the other 80% much much better.
1 Cortinthians 7:28
If you get married it is not a sin; and if an unmarried woman gets married it is not a sin. But those who do so will have trouble in the flesh.
In the bible, it warns us that when you do get married there will be trouble that comes. The 80/20 rule is part of this trouble that you will have to deal with. Don't seek for that other 20% on the outside. Faithfulness happens when you start thanking God for what you already have
